PUBLICITY This Friday on Al Jazeera’s new global talk show South 2 North, Redi Tlhabi chats to Professor Okwui Enwezo, a Nigerian art curator and critic, and two award-winning photographers: Nigerian George Osodi and South African Neo Ntsoma.

“Even though Africa is the fastest growing region in the world, a recent European survey shows that people still see Africa as the ‘Hopeless Continent’,” says Redi, who presents South 2 North from Johannesburg. Poverty, famine, darkness, corruption and tribal wars… These are the thoughts one would have when gazing at images associated with Africa in most Western media. LIKES Despite being given far larger budgets on Wolverine and Rendition, South African director Gavin Hood hasn’t made a film as good as Tsotsi since emigrating to the States. His next film may change that. Ender’s Game is based on Orson Scott Card’s classic Hugo and Nebula Prize-winning science fiction novel, which I read and loved as a teenager. Gavin’s assembled his strongest cast so far, including Asa Butterfield (Hugo), Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine), Viola Davis (The Help), Ben Kingsley and Harrison Ford. Hopefully this is a case of third time lucky for Gavin in Hollywood, rather than three strikes and you’re out.
