Alternative London Street Art Walking Tour
One of my favourite parts of exploring London was doing the Alternative London Walking Tour, a street art treasure hunt through the East End. At the time, the pay-what-you-like tour was the top ranked activity for London on Tripadvisor.
You could probably wander the streets by yourself and find many of the same pieces, but I really enjoyed the background on the artists, like how Stik went from being homeless to selling artworks to Bono and Elton John, and how C215 started by painting pictures of his daughter on the walls she would pass on the way to school, so that she knew he was thinking of her even though they didn’t live together.
I also went to the Tate Modern while I was in London, but I’d recommend you see the street art first any day. Maybe I’m just a sucker for peeling textures and street art’s unique sense of context and impermanence though.
These are some of my favorite pieces, shot on my iPhone. Lauren had her proper cameras with her, so have a look at her pictures too here.
I’d still love to see a similar tour in Woodstock…
